Bocce on Thursdays (21. September 2006, 14:34 by Derek Young) ~ The Weather Outside...

You know it’s been a long week when I don’t even realize it’s Thursday until after 3:00. So, here’s the story. I’m in school today. I have a meeting tonight. My guess is that bocce will quickly (immediately) become a trip to Doyle’s. If you’re interested in playing and/or hangin’ at Doyle’s chime in on the comments. I won’t be able to make it. I’ll be back next week.

We still need to figure out our fall/winter sport.

I vote vintage video games. NES. Atari. Arcade. It’s all good!

Goldeneye N64.

I didn’t want to email, Derek, but I kept checking to see if you were going to mention bocce. I’ll lurk in the bushes at the park ready to play, and see who shows. Except I will quickly head to do some art-walking. (It’s that pesky 3rd Thursday again.) As for a replacement activity, with all due respect, looking at a monitor is the last thing I want to do after work. I like bocce because it’s so un-virtual.

I hear you, Dave. We could start a Tac-Man group like these guys if we want a non-screen video game fix.

LOL! I can dig it, Kevin!

We’re in. Might miss games but we will see everyone at Doyle’s.

i vote bowling or shufflepuck for future thursdays.

I think Ben meant to say Shuffleboard! (Just kidding-inside joke)

Either one is fine. I think it might be hard to find something besides bowling that can accomodate a large group though.

Maybe a place that has a few different things to offer?

Chuck-E-Cheese?

Chuck E Cheese?!? Oop-Ack!!! (As brain cues music loop from the giant rocking horse.) The few times a year I have to go there already are enough! They do have beer, though. It’s just not good beer, and it’s a 2-beer limit. Who remembers a place called Players and Spectators? O.K., free was good, but so far it’s bowling at Chalet, darts, shufflepuck, Tac-Man, um…putt-putt golf….or… maybe we need to get an E133 indoor soccer team going. Would break more of a sweat than bocce, though. Or for off-season, just Doyles, followed by Doyle’s. Or maybe pick a different place each Thursday. Followed by Doyle’s.

Just got back from a weekend in Portland- we stayed near Lloyd Center Mall ($50/night thanks to Priceline). In order to lure the family to the Mall, they put in an ice skating rink. They have open skating and even CURLING!

I was amazed at the variety in folks playing: old/young, male/female, hip/yuppy…

Would be nice to see something like that downtown- or near where I live!

Maybe after the Tacoma Mall is torn down and some of the retailers relocated to downtown, we could have a public ice rink too.
