Exit133 on Thursdays - Urban Living Edition (12. October 2006, 07:17 by Derek Young) ~ A Little Change Is Good

It’s Thursday. Exit133 readers and friends tend to play bocce or hang out with drinks on Thursdays. While Doyle’s after bocce has been the regular routine, I think we’re going to do something a little different tonight. The request has been made to meet up downtown tonight. Why? To show our support and excitement for the whole Tour of Urban Living festivities going on this weekend.

Where: The Swiss. In the back of the shufflepuck / pool room.
When: We generally start to meet up around 7:00.
Why: Because it’s Thursday and a little competition and drink is good on Thursdays.

Are you in?

Sounds good. I’m in ~6:30 for some shufflepuck. I look forward to hearing more about where people think the highlights of the Tour will be. (Can we abbreviate it as just the Tour yet?)

Hope to make it tonight. Did I read the posting correctly? We are meeting in the back of the shufflepuck room? Hey Ben, here’s you opportunity to school us.

Thanks – I’m glad we might finally have an off-season bocce substitute! I won’t be too much into the Urban Living chat (I know; blasphemy), but shuffleboard/puck, pool, and beer with you all, in an historic building to boot, will be just right. I should be able to 23-skidoo and make it by 7.

That’s nice to see the meeting place moving around.

A prime candidate for the next meeting might be Meconi’s Pub and Eatery at 709 Pacific Avenue which is in the center of the restoration efforts downtown.

You should all join Derek this evening and come to the Block Tie Affair. 7-10 at the Tacoma Club. Exit133 readers & friends are the urban pioneers the party is celebrating.

Yes, please join in on the Block Tie Affair tonight!!! Tacoma Club, 7 to 10 p.m.

CraigA, thank you VERY much for the feedback on today’s special section in the News Tribune.

It was kicked off with financial support from downtown developers and Click! Network, and the advertising sales covered the rest.

We’re delighted that it turned out so well, and we hope you’ll keep it around on your coffee table or countertop (maybe even in your bathroom :)), so others can enjoy it, too.

Fingers are crossed that we’ll see you folks tonight.

According the Merchant Group Web site

Block Tie Affair unites downtown residents

This year’s Tour of Urban Living will kick off with an event for current downtown residents, the Block Tie Affair. On Oct. 12, downtown residents will have a chance to mix with one another for the first time ever, celebrating their move to the city center, while enjoying appetizers, entertainment and fun. The downtown residents in attendance will also be given “Downtown Ambassador” buttons to wear during the Tour of Urban Living so they can serve as a resource for questions from potential downtown residents. Sorry, this event is only open to current residents.

So who is and isn’t supposed to go to this event?

The Thursday night bocce group is about creating a community in this city that didn’t exist a few months ago. The Block Tie Affair is one step toward creating a community downtown. Several of the bocce players are also downtown residents. Considering the continuity of our goals and the the natural overlap of the participants, the invitation doesn’t seem like a stretch to me at all.

The invites above come from two of the primary organizers of this event. The general invite is to downtown merchants and residents. If the people who make the rules offer the invite to us, then it would seem that our names will be on the guest list and it’ll be a-okay.

So is the general consensus the Tacoma Club, the Swiss, or one then the other?

Meet at the Swiss. Those that are interested in heading over to the Block Tie Affair, can leave from there.

See you guys on the Tour on Saturday! Maybe I can school ‘yall in shuffleboard some other time. I referee high school soccer games on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, which explains my regular absence from bocce and Doyle’s. I’m still voting for a regular Saturday Exit133 gettogether.
