A Darker Part of Tacoma's History on eBay (20. November 2006, 19:06 by Derek Young) ~ Unsettling Events Indeed

This photo on eBay came to my attention and, while my normal perspective is quite positive, this isn’t. The photo is, however, a piece of our city’s history. What is it? It’s a photo of a hanging man with a caption of “Lynched -Tacoma Washington”. The photo is estimated to be from 1902. This auction prompted me to do a bit of digging on the unsettling events part of the Library’s Northwest Room’s online database. I hadn’t been to the site in a while. Shouldn’t be that surprising, lynching was once America’s favorite pasttime. That’s past though, now they just tie them on the back of pickups and drag them untill their head falls off.
