Once upon a time, when the weather was better, we used to play bocce on Thursday nights. But we seem to be fair weather bocce players so we have to find other things to do when the sky is dark and the ground is wet. What should we do tonight? (Hint – this isn’t limited to the bocce player).
1. City Steps Open House
From 4:00 to 7:00.
2. Christmas Tree Lighting at the Pantages
Start time: 5:00. Tree Lighting at 6:00
3. Historic Tacoma Public Meeting
Start time: 7:00. Don’t miss the presentation by Michael Sullivan.
4. Several of the regular Thursday night bocce players are getting together for their first post-Thanksgiving event at Doyle’s. By event, what we mean is that folks are meeting at Doyle’s for food and drinks. I’m not expecting banners or speeches. I am expecting a good time. Is there a start time?
5. Puget Sound Pizza’s Thursday night special is the St. Helens. If you haven’t been, go try it. PSP is open late for your post Historic-Tacoma-Meeting fix.
Will I see you out there tonight?

A comment that has arisen in the past that I figured I’d toss out:
“How can I find/identify like-minded Exit133-ers?”
Without bocce balls in hand, or a carnation in the lapel, any suggestions?

If you’re thinking pizza, you must try the St. Helens, soooooo good!

“How can I find/identify like-minded Exit133-ers?”
Yesterday I was thinking, wouldn’t it be neat if we could someone make up small buttons (not the obnoxious campaign pins) that simply said “133” on it. A simple wink and nod to other patrons of Exit 133 that could help foster community and conversation.
Of course I don’t know about funding or distribution, but I can’t imagine that would be too difficult.

I suppose if you wanted to be really ambitious, you could have some sort of pin design contest, or bocce ball painting for the truly hardcore

Cafe Press can do nice pins online—I did some for the department. Or better yet, we need Exit 133 T-shirts! Wearing one emblazoned with the name alone would confer “in” status while befuddling Seattlites.

How about an exit133 bocce ball lapel pin?
Speaking of exit133 shirts… whatever happened to those?

I like the pin idea a lot. Something that’s subtle enough that you’d have to look for it. Maybe 1“x.5”
I also like the idea of a little bocce ball w/ the exit133 overlapping/extending out of the lower right.

A pin is cool – goes with everything. But “design by committee???”... I dunno… ;-) But sure, everyone bring a sketch or an idea. After a few pints I think we should be able to narrow it down. And if we can’t decide, there’s always the dart board. Tree lighting, Sullivan’s talk, design committee meeting – what a full night!

Watch out, some of us befuddled Seattlites actually visit Exit133 with regularity… and we might not be as confused as you think ; ))

This city really needs to work on the Christmas Tree thing. Why weren’t there any speakers outside? Only the people in the lobby could hear the announcer. We need a bigger tree. Why were there soooooo many dogs? Why was there nothing else to do? Lights on and everyone scattered. They want more people to come down but don’t really offer anything other than a 10 second countdown and a glimpse of a wimpy christmas tree with colored lights..
Let get some creative people in this town that can put on a show! Maybe next year… Oh and move the tree to Pacific Plaza!
We were anticipating rain/sleet/snow, so the speaker platform was moved inside. There was pre event happenings in the lobby and music afterwards, but many people just kinda left. I did notice many of the establishments were packed during / afterwards. Thanks to Ex-133 for showing up with so many people.

Congratulations to all of the efforts to put on the tree lighting last night including the Downtown Merchants, Fort Lewis and Pantages theater. The event was well attended. Great event.
The new lounge in the Pantages really helped by having a warm place for people wait until the tree was lit up instead of shivering outside.
It was a fun time. And interesting to learn about the historical relationship between the City of Tacoma and Ft. Lewis that this tree lighting represents. Unfortunately, unless you were close, the eloquent words spoken by the honorable General (in particular about the service men and women who cannot be with their families) and the other speakers were hard to hear over the mingling people. The Army brass was great, and the free cider and children dressed in the great Nutcracker ballet attire helped set the scene. (The rabbit was cool!) The kids got to see a very patient Santa. (Although later my 5-year old daughter showed me photo evidence later that he looked “different” from when he was at the Mall last year.) It did kind of fizzle out in the end. The flute & harp duet playing afterwards unfortunately went pretty much unnoticed. But a great tradition that I hope will always be around.

Oh, I forgot – After so long, it was nice to hang out w/ you bocce regulars again (although we somehow never got to the pin-committee meeting). Uni-drizell made it north, but I didn’t see you, DavidS. And Sullivan’s Historic Tacoma presentation was excellent – I hadn’t seen about half of those photos before. So thanks for the Thursday planner, Derek.
