Heavy rains and flooding have seriously affected many Pierce County families, especially in the eastern part of the county. To help families keep their homes and jobs, the Family Emergency Fund enables Associated Ministries to respond to real and urgent needs faced by families struggling to make ends meet. For most people, these expenditures are small or at least not substantial enough to put them in debt. But for individuals and families living in poverty, these expenses are impossible to meet without assistance and can put families at risk of becoming homeless or unemployed.
The Family Emergency Fund’s available resources have been drained and additional funds are urgently needed. To raise support for the Fund, Associated Ministries will host two benefit showings of the holiday classic, It’s a Wonderful Life, on Thursday, Dec. 7. The black and white 1946 movie, directed by Frank Capra, will be shown at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Blue Mouse Theatre in Tacoma’s Proctor District.
The 2 p.m. screening is open to the public. Tickets to the 2 p.m.show are $5; group rates available for parties of 10 or more. Tickets are available in advance at the Blue Mouse or by calling Associated Ministries at 253-383-3056 ×115.
Admission to the evening screening is free, but donations will be solicited for the Family Emergency Fund and reservations are required. This fundraising event begins with a 6 p.m. reception featuring music from local choirs and hors d’oeuvres and holiday treats from area caterers. Later, as the film comes to a close, actors from the Lakewood Playhouse will re-enact the last scene. For reservations to the evening benefit, contact Paige Barnett at 253-383-3056 ×115.
