Like many of you, we’re without power. There are some large tree limbs in the street around our house. A few cars near said tree limbs have seen better days. I hope your homes, cars, family members, dogs, cats, and cockatiels are safe and warm.
It may take me a while to get a photo up for today. My photo cache is a bit inaccessible at the moment.
Update: We took a walk through the North Slope neighborhood this afternoon and snapped a few photos. We have power again. Not everybody in the neighborhood is so lucky. We feel very fortunate.

Crazy — our house did really well with only a couple on/offs of the power last night. The corridor from my house down 30th to work all has power but that must be about it. Saw a couple trees down along 30th — one in someone’s yard that fell away from their house and one right in Old Town that was uprooted and even pulled some bricks from near the sidewalk.
Bummer is that, although we have power at home, our ISP is hurting so no KevinFreitas.net or FeedTacoma.com for now. :(

Very crazy…We are quite lucky actually, the tree in front of our house decided it was ready to go, and fell across the street hitting the neighbor instead of crashing into our bedroom.. I have a few snaps up at Tacomaness. Thankfully nobody was hurt.

we’re good up here on Strawberry Hill, but I guess that UPS is out, since I can’t reach our website. Snaps to the snaps, James.

I’m fascinated by the what the power grid setup might be like in Tacoma.
We are mere blocks from Franklin Park and managed to keep power (other than a brief outage sometime after midnight that I think lasted seconds, minutes at most). The light was out at the intersection of S 12th and Pine where I caught the bus this morning, but the light at 12th and Cedar seemed to be working great, which is between Pine and Franklin Park. So either there are a lot of small outages, or there is some sort of strange mazelike network of transmission lines.
Regardless, I would guess that the job ahead of TPU is much smaller than that staring PSE in the face. Within the city, I would guess that most power will be up really quickly. But I could be wrong—back in the days of the ’93 Inaugural Day storm I was in the King County ‘burbs, so I don’t have a frame of reference for how long it takes the city to handle large scale outages.

I found a huge tree down a block from my house and blocking the street. I posted a couple of pictures on the UPS PG blog.

The relatively large tree just south of the Downtown post office took some serious damage. Unfortunately I didn’t bring my camera to work…

I’m currently at work in Seattle right now, but does anyone know if there is power in NE Tacoma?(Browns Point) It was out when I left for work, but I would really like to take a hot shower when I get home.

Geez that storm was wicked.
I couldn’t sleep a wink on the Eastside.
I sadly watched the wind whip away sections of my backyard fence.
The power and the cable cords that connect from my house to the pole looked like a mean game of double dutch, and I thought for sure that they’d snap, but they didn’t.
I also swore that the gutters and the rooftop shingles were going to peel off, and I’m so happy that they’re intact.
I’m also grateful for power.
I have no idea how I’m going to fix the fence since I’m not home improvement handy.
Do you think pizza and beer incentives would do the trick?
Hope you all are well.

Eric, my boss headed home early to replace some shingles, but they never completely lost power. He’s in the North Shore(?) area; not sure if that helps.
I’m fairly handy with fixing stuff, but not sure how I am at mending fences these days. However I’m probably not the only one who might respond to such incentives, and might volunteer for Exit 133 work parties. Wooden fence? Height, and how much in length? Did the posts snap-off? Were they in concerete or not? What kind of beer?

Looking out of my office window from downtown, there are some lights shining over in NE Tacoma and Browns Point, but it looks like it may be a bit spotty. Then again, maybe the dark areas just have no houses…

We lost power last light at 23:46 – lots of wind howling overhead and some very minor flooding in the basement.
The commute to work was pretty dark. At one point the Sounder went through some downed trees near the Puyallup Indian reservation.
Most people were treating it like a ‘snow day’ so only a handful were at the office. We’re running on generator power at our primary data center – something we can do for around 2 weeks without re-fueling. At last check we still have 10 or so clinics without power.
Our power came back around noon today and the UPS seems to have protected my favorite computer from letting their magic smoke escaping.
Yikes. I hope we done have to many more of those storms..

In the S 8th & Junette area, we had power the whole time. Just a couple of trees and some fence down in the area. Out walking this morning, it looks like the power in on for the whole area along S12 to Sprague and along 6th Ave. I heard a few neighbors talking who were glad to have power again.

We just got our cable back this evening, but only lost power from 1 AM Friday morning until 1 or 2 in the afternoon in the Steele street Cushman intersection. The next block down of Stelle and Sheridan down to M Street still has no power. TPU is reporting that only 6500 Tacoma customers are still without power as of this evening. I assume that the fact that this block is still down is due to one or two of the massive trees that have come down around this area.
James @ Tacomaness – had no idea we live about a block or two away from you. Have always admired your house and the trees in your yard, and am glad that you and yours are OK.
