The word on the street (or at least on ThriceAllAmerican) is that Tacoma is getting a real marathon. Seriously. The Inaugural Tacoma City Marathon is May 13th, 2007. There’s a marathon and half marathon course. The full marathon starts and ends in downtown Tacoma. It runs a loop down Ruston Way to Point Defiance, South to Hwy 16, and back to downtown. I like it. It’s been a while since I was a regular runner. Maybe this will get me on the marathon training schedule again.
Team Exit133 starts training today. Who wants in?
Update: Several folks have asked about training schedule recommendations. The training schedule I’ve used can be found here (Excel). I’ve already loaded up the May 13th date for you. If you need a schedule, there are a lot of them on the web. Pick one and go for it.

I’m so glad to see this post… I was thinking about sending you the info!
I’ll be there along with a group of 7-8 people I’ve already tricked into doing the race. (that’s my MO!)
Even if you don’t participate as a runner or volunteer please spread the word about this race. It’s about time Tacoma had an event like this considering Seattle, Bellevue and Olympia already do. We need to make this first year a big success!

What no Exit133 team????
Oh! There’s definitely a team Exit133. We’re still working out the details. GritCity seems to be stepping up... Game on.
The full course looks great. (Surprised the freeway portion is so late in the course though.)
I might be up for either a 10k or half. Don’t think my knees would handle the full 26.2mi by May.
Does this mean that the Thursday night bocce is to be replaced by running? I can’t see little old Italian men out running. I guess Team 133 will have to find another time for a group run.
I say we start planning a regular Point Defiance (trail) run. Anything from 3mi and up. I need an excuse to get back in shape.

Okay. Being the loyal reader that I am, if there are some 133 training runs, please count me for 3-mi and I’ll see how my back holds out these days. (Does it defeat the purpose to end up at Doyle’s afterwards?)

I’m looking forward to the Tacoma Marathon and will definitely run the half if not the full. It looks like those registering before Jan 1 get a price break. This past year was my first year running. I started with the Y(mca) Run For Kids in April, then Sound to Narrows and Bank to Bay during the summer. A friend and I trained for and just completed the Seattle Half in the snow and freezing rain.
As it is, I wish the Tacoma Marathon had found a different weekend…The Capital City Marathon (Olympia) is the following Sunday. We’ll just have to make do.
I had heard rumors that Tacoma used to have a marathon in years past…but not in recent memory. Does anyone know how this course compares? Anyone know what killed the last one?
If someone is willing to organize training runs, I game. Best

Hmmm… seems like I’ve been here before. Alright. I’m in. I’ve got to do it at least once in my life. It’s just that it is so much easier to ignore an out of town marathon than one in your own back yard. I’ll start warming up my excuses just in case.
