Crystal Ball: Exit133 Predictions for 2007 (29. December 2006, 10:17 by Derek Young) ~ It's Friday!

Looking ahead we decided to make some attempts at predicting what will be major stories on Exit133 in 2007. Of course it’s Friday, so… well you know. Please feel free to add some of your own.

Port of Tacoma buys all land with views of the port
Port worried about residents complaining of light pollution. Decide to buy the land from anyone with a view.

Prium buys Mount Rainier
Buoyed by the sale of all its downtown condos to the Port, major local developer purchases the National Park to develop condos, renames it Rainier Heights. Moves offices to Paradise.

Stadium Turns 101 Years Old
No party thrown.

University Place builds one giant roundabout
Drivers no longer have to drive through UP to get to Lakewood

‘Creative Class’ flees to Seattle
Two artists remain to keep Tacoma hip.

New Tacoma Narrows Bridge opens in 2007
Doesn’t fall down. WSDOT 2 for 3.

2007 Poll: Every person in Tacoma wants a McMenamin’s Pub
Every print and online publication in the city takes credit for introducing every person in Tacoma to McMenamins.

Sound Transit Board approves less ambitious package
Light rail will go from the Poodle Dog in Fife to Trader Joe’s in Federal Way. Tacoma connection to Sea-Tac expected before the turn of the next century.

Tribune starts new blogs
Topics include Texas Hold’em, Constitutional Law, and Taxidermy.

Hotdog and pretzel stand opens on Tollefson Plaza

Even if we’re wrong about some of these things, have no fear that Exit133 will be there to cover it all in 2007. Happy New Year!

I am sad to say that this scenario seems to be the most likely to occur.

Exit 133 gets renumbered “Exit 134.”
Continued I-5 construction results in the Tacoma freeway exit to be relocated one mile further north. Derek orders new stationery.

my wife and I volunteer to stay in Tacoma to keep Tacoma “Hip” though we are not considered hip ourselves, we believe that artists who embrace their seemingly un-hip sides become hip in the eyes of slack.

Tacoma Dome becomes the new home of the Tacoma Super Sonics basketball team. Plans are made to transport the dome, board by board, to Oklahoma City because they don’t have enough trees down there to build a stadium.

Gladiator Tacoma Show arrives on Public Access in May

Lakewood and Spanaway residents successfully pitch an idea to have padded combatants attack each other in a padded room at the studios of TV-12. As expected, the show depicting aggression, violence and generally uncivil behavior is a hit, and gang violence is reduced as the most riveting programming offered since Tacoma Idol is shown at all hours. When Pierce County TV-21 contacted the two of the show’s creators at a Friday Nite Feed, the philanthropists had no comment whether or not such a show could play well in the suburbs.

KEXP feels sorry for the musical time warp that is Tacoma and starts transmitting once again in the South Sound area. Listeners get a reprieve from Steely Dan, Aerosmith, and Lynard Skynard when Stadium Thriftway, Puget Sound Pizza, and other retailers finally lay the 70s to rest.
