Renaissance at Old City Hall Open House Today ( 6. January 2007, 05:52 by Derek Young) ~ You In?

Are you one of the fine Exit133 readers currently looking for a downtown condo to call your very own? If so, there’s an open house today that you probably shouldn’t miss:

Saturday (Today) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Stratford Co. will host a VIP Open House at its upcoming Renaissance at Old City Hall, 625 Commerce St. Metropolitan Market will cater the public event and Posh Home, the Sixth Avenue furniture dealer, will furnish a model sales space. When finished, the 41 units will sell from $600,000 to more than $1 million.

The most intriguing unit is the clock tower itself:

THE CLOCKTOWER”: This highly coveted home is actually located inside the famous Clock Tower; a location that is truly unmatched anywhere in the region. The 2,210 square-foot home spans three floors, with gorgeous brick archways, a state-of-the-art kitchen, ½ bath and excellent city and water views on the first floor; and a spacious master suite and elegant master bath with remarkable circular windows on the second floor. The customizable third level is simply astonishing, with floor to ceiling windows on all four walls revealing stunning panoramas in every direction, as well as an up-close viewpoint of the building’s amazing architectural details. The owner of this home also boasts egress to the inner-workings of the clock itself.”

Looking at the floor plan, it almost looks as if you can buy the “clock tower suite” separately. Nice to see they are putting the retail spaces on Commerce.

I assume they will not reactivate the bell. Although having the clock repaired will be an important milestone for Tacoma.

Rumors still swirl that Chihuly or some other dignitary is looking at one of the top level suites.

Looks like a nice day today. I might stop by.

I really liked what I saw of the building and their plans for it. It’s going to be a quite a residence.

It would really do a lot for that neighborhood to have some viable retail on Commerce. I’d like to see some closer to 10th and Commerce, as well. Perhaps the transit agency would be willing to part with some of it’s real estate, in exchange for people not being freaked out by the scene they encounter when they get off the bus.

I think Lorig or another group had planned to build something in the empty lot on Commerce street diagonal from the Old City Hall Building…but we are still waiting for something to happen.

Apparently, they are in the process of fixing the clock but not alot of people in the state skilled to do so.

Since egress means “n. The act of coming or going out; emergence. The right to leave or go out,” I presume the owner gets to exit his/her unit via the workings of the clock tower? Sounds greasy and dangerous to me.

The units look gorgeous, and given the sodden state of my yard and basement, condo living sounds good to me right now. But I do hate the excesses of real-estate speech, especially when they are used incorrectly!

There’s been a rumor that the Seattle owner of one the buildings on Commerce that Wm. Riley & Co. leases for parking (diagonal from Old City Hall) is planning on knocking it down to build condos…

I’m guessing you are talking about the Lorig(Court17 apartments) project SevenCom. 717-737 Broadway (parcels front Commerce Street as well) That project has been in the works for as long as I can remember. It used to be called BroadCom but had to change its name due to another company having that name already. Last I heard they were finishing up with some environmental issues.

Thanks Jake. The project may be accelerating now…When I switched to different Riley garage further down Commerce, I was told that it was a good choice, as the teardown is looming closer.

(My opinions on Riley’s garages would be off-topic, so I won’t comment on that right now.)
