Bobs BBQ Pit is a force to be reckoned with, the next day you can eat at Quicky Too and clear your conscience.

Nice map and branding. Maps like this one will help the area gets more of an individual identity.

I like the name Hilltop for the area and I think they should stay with it. The name also connotes one of values of the area, which is that it has view property. “Upper Tacoma” can’t really do that.

I am bullish about the area. Between plans designed specifically for Hilltop, the investment from the hospital and the developments climbing up the hill, the area is looking up.

The neighborhoods are laid out well with walkable sidewalks and historic homes. It has a pretty intact neighborhood grid.

The neighborhood activists and the police have performed a heroic task of cleaning up alot of the area and getting it under control. Now is the chance to take the next step and have some good businesses move back into the area.

As for the future of Hilltop, it is still a relatively blank canvas waiting for alot of creativity.

Portland’s Pearl District has a map similar to this, but (of course) with many more businesses. The map is durable and easy to read, and is widely available throughout the downtown area. Condo projects advertise on the map, and there is a complete business directory with everything from accounts to yeomen. So nice to see something like this here…Hilltop rules, let’s hope this map expands tenfold in the next couple years.

Hilltop has some amazing places to eat, and has the makings of a prime, international dining district.
For anyone not familiar with the Hillside Quickie movement, or its Tacoma manifestation, Quickie Too, there is no place on earth that makes Vegan eating so enjoyable for omnivores.
The Tacoma spot is unassuming and easy to miss – it is half a block north of S. 15th on MLK. Inside, it’s like an oasis – rasta to the bone, sparse and filled with wonderful smells. Their signature spiced tofus will make you second guess the need to eat meat. If you’re into cooked greens, but aren’t into swine, Quickie makes them better than anyone, with no pork.
Sevice is sometimes…um….relaxed, but won’t cause heartburn unless you’re really tense about being catered to like a medieval lord.
The “Crazy Jamaican” is a wrestling match of a burger that has dozens of layers of flavor to explore. For guys bent on proving their manhood by eating enormous quantities of meat, this thing is a huge, eat-half-and take-a-nap kind of burger that you’ll be proud to down.
Bottom line – go eat there, and bring friends you want to impress.
