A New Business District for Tacoma? (24. January 2007, 12:22 by Derek Young) ~ Defining Our Neighborhoods

The Tacoma Weekly is reporting that a group of like-minded merchants is pushing to create a new business district that would stretch along Pacific between 48th and 56th. The group is currently operating under the name Central Pacific Avenue Business Association. It sounds like the idea is still in the early planning stages, but there’s movement toward the goal nonetheless.

Well, there are certainly a lot of business areas in east Tacoma that could be considered a ‘business district’. I spent some time delivering pizza all over east Tacoma and the ‘south end’. My only concern is that few of these areas are in great shape. So many of the buildings have bars on the windows, paint chipping everywhere, dead grass, etc. Good luck to them though… I’ve been getting a little concerned at how much this part of Tacoma has been ignored. I suppose anything like this is to be considered good news.

Kudos to them. That is the first step to try to breath (more) life into an area.
