The Grand Cinema invites Tacoma to watch the 79th Annual Academy Awards on the big screen at the Rialto Theatre on Sunday, February 25th. Three of the five films nominated for Best Picture were shown at the Grand Cinema in 2006 – Babel, Little Miss Sunshine and The Queen. Other films shown at the Grand such as Half Nelson, The Last King of Scotland, Notes on a Scandal and Volver have all received nominations in lead and supporting categories for Best Actor and Best Actress.

“The Grand Cinema continues to show many of the films nominated for Academy awards. We hope Tacoma will join us for the festivities at the Rialto as we celebrate independent films and root for our favorite actors and actresses,” says Executive Director Philip Cowan.

The event is a fundraiser for Tacoma’s favorite nonprofit movie theater.

Tickets are $12 for members, $15 for non-members and includes appetizers from many local restaurants including The Swiss, The Rock, The Harmon, Garlic Jim’s Pizza, Puget Sound Pizza, Galanga Thia and dessert from Corina Bakery.

A cash bar with beer, wine and soft drinks sponsored by Doyles. There will be a raffle with tons of prizes and a silent auction. Doors open at 4pm, the broadcast begins at 5pm.
