We’ve walked by this house for years and have always admired its distinctive lines and unusual turret. To say that it has large rooms and tall ceilings may be a bit of an understatement. There’s approximately 6000 square feet of circa 1893 living space. The main living room is 22’ by 45’. That’s plenty of room for a full size shuffle puck table. Amazing.

What an interesting history! This house makes me think: along with square footage, listings should have cubic footage. Now THAT would be interesting… if you’re a geek like me!

What an amazing house. Nice to see it hasn’t been split up 10 ways.

Now, I’m not denying this is a large and gorgeous house, but it seems to be another case of the incredible growing North End homes, along with the Frederick Heath house on the market. I was told by the realtor a month or two that it was 9000 square feet. I’m glad to see they brought it down to something more realistic on the website (though she may have just misspoken, to be fair).

The numbers for the room sizes just don’t add up. The 18×18 blue bedroom looks smaller than my humble 14X14 bedroom a couple blocks away. It could be the camera lens, but using the furniture as guides, and seeing that we rarely get two angles of the room, it still seems fishy to me. A tape measure around the perimeter of the house might be a simple solution.

Still I see this happening in homes in our area a lot – less expensive homes as well. So a word to the wise for buyers – before paying X dollars per square foot, make sure the square footage is actually there!

It may be the camera lens. I haven’t been in this house, but several people I know have and they tell stories about how big that living room is. Plus, the numbers are actually quite consistent with the tax assessor’s website. It states about 6000 square feet finished with 1000 square feet unfinished. So if it is overstated, they’re paying for it.
