Infinite Soups Opens Today (28. February 2007, 07:17 by Derek Young) ~ Mmm... Tomato Basil

Don’t forget that Infinite Soups opens today at 445 Tacoma Avenue South. Help support local businesses. Will I see you there?

Update: While walking downtown today I stopped at Infinite Soup just as they opened their doors. I ordered up a bowl of split pea soup for $3.50 and ate it while walking downtown. My belly is much warmer and happier now. Mmmm…

Great emerging area of town. I am going to check them out today.

Sounds like soup and cake for lunch.

this is great – I forgot they were opening soon. My new place is a block away. Somehow I see soup in my future.

My coworker and I went there today to pick-up lunch. On this rainy March 2nd, there were about 6 of us in the little storefront, taste-testing soups galore. I’m only a tad embarrassed to admit that I tried maybe 7 different soups before deciding on containers of both the Mushroom Hazelnut (smelled vaguely of Nutella, rich and hearty) & the Pork Verde (brothy, with fresh cilantro, loads of vegs and meat). The owner kept suggesting that I try another and another…what’s a girl to do??

I didn’t know that the owner/family previously ran the café at the News Tribune for several years. I asked her “Why soups for your first independent place?” She replied that soups were the menu area where she felt most creative…almost like “soups chose her”.

Please note that at least for the time being, they ACCEPT CASH ONLY and our friend Brett predicted…butter for the rolls will surely be added soon.

As we were getting into the car (no seating available….YET), my coworker said that she really liked it… “It is what it is.”
I agreed; they don’t seem to be trying to be anything other than what they are….extremely yummy, affordable, nourishing, and infinite soups.

P.S. – For those of you who know me, it’s certainly no Carl’s Jr.

I stopped there with a friend on the way to Coffee & Rhetoric last night. The Cuban Black Bean was perhaps the best I’ve ever had. Corina Bakery is conveniently located around the corner (and on our way to Coffee & Rhetoric), so we stopped in there for some dessert as well. Soup and cake: a perfect rainy day combination.

So many soups, such a treat! Unlike 31 flavors…I want to try them all.

I showed up there for lunch and called back to the office to see if anyone else wanted soup. There was more interest than I could handle on the phone. With so many soups in the offering, things got complicated so I grabbed the handy soup list at the counter and returned to the office to take orders.

The soups were wonderful. Bread could be better, something artesian to pair with the incredible soups…maybe a bread bakery next door could fill that niche? Cash only, so be prepared.

If the soup chef reads this thread…how’bout adding Ajiaco (Columbian Chicken Soup) to the menu sometime. Thanks for adding to the infinite possibilities in the neighborhood.

Soon we’ll do Bocce and soup. BEST.

On opening day there, I brought home 5 different soups to try a slew of them out.

All I can say is that they were incredible, hearty, and seasoned just right. Someone there knows what they are doing. It will be hard to choke down “soup of the day” elsewhere now.

Is the cash only thing temporary? This is 2007 so I hope so, because who carries cash anymore?
