The City of Tacoma Needs Your Help ( 2. March 2007, 17:33 by Derek Young) ~ Walk The Talk

Do you want to be part of the solution? Join the conversation. Make yourself heard!

Dear Neighborhood Council Member and Activist,

We’re asking you to partner with us on an exciting project we believe will contribute significantly to the long-range welfare of the Tacoma community.

The Joint Municipal Action Committee-a collaboration of the City of Tacoma, Tacoma Public Schools, Metro Parks and Pierce County-is engaging the community in a dialog aimed at deciding what future we want for Tacoma and the role that education and learning will play in achieving that future. This project will culminate in a Summit May 4 and 5, 2007 at the Stadium High School campus. Central to this effort is fully engaging the community. We are committed to getting broad, diverse input from residents about their vision for the future and the significance of education and learning. We hope each of you will commit to being present and will also be willing to take on an active role in carrying this vital effort forward following the event. Prior to the Summit, we are engaging people from all across Tacoma in “Conversation Cafes” about learning and Tacoma’s future. Our focus is to stimulate conversation and work with the community to better understand their wants and needs regarding education and lifelong learning. The outcome of these conversations will set the tone for
the summit and springboard us into action. We appreciate your interest in Tacoma’s future and the vitality of our community. Each of us has a stake and a role in the outcomes of these efforts and it will take our collective wisdom to fulfill our quest to Get Smart Tacoma. Visit the summit website at www.GetSmartTacoma.com for more information about the summit and the conversations taking place throughout the community.

Sincerely,

Connie Ladenburg – Councilmember, City of Tacoma
Kurt Miller – Board Member, Tacoma School District
Victoria Woodards – Commissioner, Metro Parks
Tim Farrell – Pierce County Council, Tacoma District 4

Sounds interesting! It’s about time we talk about this!

But isn’t this the same night and time as the weekly city council meeting? Is this in place of the council meeting?
