Mystery of the Antique Safe Solved (19. April 2007, 11:05 by Derek Young) ~ Will You Help Me Move It?

The News Tribune is reporting that the owner of the missing safe found at 4th and Broadway has been found. Who was it? How about Williams & Dame. Zimmerman would’ve been a past owner. Got it? The safe came from the Elks Building. The News Tribune posted the story earlier this week and the piece got picked up by the purveyor of online cool, BoingBoing. Now what? Given the state of the Elks Building, where is the safe going now? Portland?

Does anyone think there’s actually something in it? I’m guessing it’s empty. Or full of paperwork. As long as there’s not long lost Elk in there …

For anyone out there who has never had the chance to visit an Elks Lodge, I offer, the 11 o’clock toast:

You have heard the tolling of 11 strokes.
This is to remind us that with Elks, the hour of 11 has a tender significance.

Wherever Elks may roam, whatever their lot in life may be, when this hour falls upon the dial of night, the great heart of Elkdom swells and throbs.

It is the golden hour of recollection, the homecoming of those who wander, the mystic roll call of those who will come no more.

Living or dead, Elks are never forgotten, never forsaken.

Morning and noon may pass them by, the light of day sink heedlessly in the West, but ere the shadows of midnight shall fall, the chimes of memory will be pealing forth the friendly message,
“To our absent members.”

...especially the ones we locked in a safe and left for dead when we moved to the new hall off of Union Ave.

OK, we know where the safe came from. What I want to know now is how this behemoth safe got upside down into the middle of the street.

My money is on Space/Time Vortex.

What I want to know now is how this behemoth safe got upside down into the middle of the street.

I’ve been wondering the same thing. That’s a pretty impressive feat.

I think this is the real mystery, since the building is (supposedly) locked, that thing is HEAVY, and no one saw or heard it being moved…

My bet is that the safe will have a mySpace page by next week.
