Multi-Family Tax Exemptions for May (24. April 2007, 07:41 by Derek Young) ~ Keeping Busy

There aren’t any surprises in this list. We’ve talked about most of these projects. I do like to see progress at the Mecca. There’s something kinda romantic – in that downtown revitalization sort of way – about living in a condo above the last downtown porn theater.

The site is only 18,000 square feet. The number of units would indicate a structure that is at least 4 stories high, minus the parking. Does anyone know any details about this project? Perhaps student-oriented housing for the UWT? It’s within the U’s 20-year footprint.

Glad to see some interest in this area. Tacoma Avenue is pretty desolate with ongoing “issues.”

Romance, is in the air.
It’ll be just great when when the first child is conceived, above such a landmark.
What should they call them?
Artichoke?

I must confess I have not been in Tacoma longer than the Mecca has been here. What was the Mecca before it became an adult bookstore and movie theater. I know it was most likely a hotel above, but what was the name of the establishment and what businesses occupied the street levels? I guess I can call the Northwest Room at the Tacoma Library and get the scoop, but if anyone knows off hand, well maybe that was a poor choice of words…
