We’re feeling curious today. So, just to get folks even more excited around here, we hear about earth movers on the six acres of city land at 21st and Fawcett. This is the land that once-upon-a-time was being considered for the new City Hall campus. We’ve sent out a few emails asking for clarification of the work being done, but we’re also getting cell phone pics and calls about the work from several folks. So, yes, we hear you! The land there is moving and something is happening. Maybe it’s just a bit of spring cleaning… Or…
Here’s a thought – since we don’t know what’s happening on this land, what would you like to see here? City Hall? An extension of UWT? A six acre mixed use project? A commercial building with first floor retail? A multiplex with a Red Robin in the parking lot? Six acres of community garden? The earth is moving… now’s the time to dream before reality sets in.

Great post to get people speculating.
what would you like to see here?
City Hall?
No, we want to keep city hall in the urban core of downtown by the soon to be restored Winthrop Hotel. City Hall should be by where future dignatries are staying. Plus, removing civic institutions from the central business district would suck the life out of it. Condos are a sleepy resplacement for commercial space.
An extension of UWT?
Sure.
A six acre mixed use project?
Yes.
A multiplex with a Red Robin in the parking lot
A multiplex if done right without being a strip mall.
With summer right around the corner and redevelopment years away- how about a Hillside Water Slide?!

How about a hybrid check cashing, casino, strip club, pawn shop.
Or Red Robins fine.

This is just spring cleaning requested by the neighborhood. Nothing exciting going on here.

“Makes it safer for the slip-n-slides.”
Anyone have a 300’ x 20’ sheet of plastic? And a garden hose?

I heard from the library employees that it’s going to be a fleet storage parking lot.

Yippee! Surface parking!
I’ve always though this lot would make a great spot for vehicle storage. It’s always kind of said “Fife” to me. Maybe an easement through a few stalls for the sheet of plastic.
I do have a very large roll of plastic – though I’m not sure if it will be think enough for people weight. The home improvement stores all carry it as vapor barriers.
OT: Favorite: Lowe’s, Home Depot, Ace, Other?

How about some affordable housing to make living downtown realistic?

How about we stop fooling ourselves with earthly delights and build my SPACE ELEVATOR already!
Anyway if we had elected Michael Goodspaceguy things would be different.

I don’t think any multiplex can be done right. Or, forget that, how about a CINERAMA!
Nah. Although the SPACE ELEVATOR has its practicalities, how about the World’s Tallest escalator a la The Simpsons; to pay homage to Tacoma’s Escalade moving sidewalk.
Speaking of World’s Tallest, this space would be perfect for my World’s Largest roadside attraction museum!
I’ve always wanted to build, in a single place, a replica collection of World’s Largest attractions: You know, world’s largest chair, ball of lint, shuttlecock, Paul Allen statue. Yet, I would build them about an inch or two larger than their originals to claim the title. Think about it; it would be bigger (pun intended) than the LeMay museum!

Great idea’s for future use! Maybe we ought to look into a little bit of the history of those blocks before its scraped away forever! What you see is the final removal of what once was Japan Town…darn shame we shipped em’ out in 42, and took thier land for a slip and slide. I walked by there last week, so sad :(
