Way back in February, the City of Tacoma deemed an application to develop the North Shore golf course incomplete. The application was filed just before the City Council approved a moratorium on Planned Residential Developments (PRDs) like the North Shore project.
Today, an appeal by the development team began down at City Hall and will last through today and possibly tomorrow. Exit133 dropped by for a few hours this morning to hear a small part of the arguments.
At issue are a number of questions the development group is asking to be reviewed in their appeal.
Is the golf course actually bound by covenants to remain open space? Did the city act unfairly to target one PRD with the moratorium? Was the application actually incomplete?
When we left the Council Chambers, the developers’ lawyer was only a short way through his questioning of land use administrator Peter Katich. Plenty more to come in the hearing and, if you’re interested, it’s open to the public.

Pete is actually THE land use administrator.
To my knowledge, the application was incomplete because it failed to address potential critical area issues adjacent to the site.
