On Saturday more than 100 volunteers gathered at S 10th and M St to create a community gardens virtually from scratch.
It was an incredible display of civic pride and community spirit. We grabbed some footage throughout the day …
Makes us want to grab some seeds and start growing.
We’ll get some regular video features going in the future, so hopefully this is the first of many. In the meantime we’re still trying to figure out what all these buttons do on our camera …

Super Rad! Also I was admiring the red rain barrels, where can a guy get his hands on some of those?

Fun stuff. Though the video doesn’t seem to fill the entire width of the Google player.

Those could be none other than Dan Borba rain barrels. We’ve got a whole bevy of these things around our house, they’re definitely cool, with a built in overflow and everything. He actually lives pretty much right across the alley from this garden. He’s at the Proctor farmers market every week, I believe, or you can check out his website. Other colors besides red are usually available, too…

Seconding Jamie’s post—Dan Borba’s rain barrels kick out the jams. We’ve got one in black for that home gardening meets goth look.

It was an awesome way to get work done. I felt like I didn’t do THAT much, but a little bit from a lot of people makes a big difference. I look forward to seeing more of the 133 crowd next time.

I haven’t viewed the video but the title makes me wonder when the sequel “Drying Paint” will be coming out. Not quite as engrossing as watching grass grow but a close second.
Just kidding. The comments demonstrate that the video is more than that.

“Already in Tacoma we have seen that there are a lot of different people interested and a lot of different things going on. And there needs to be some way to connect them, so we’re not constantly reinventing the wheel…” –Kristen McIvor
http://www.idealist.org/ is a fantastic social networking site for community activists. Exit133 has performed marvelously in getting people together, but this site is definitely worth checking out as well.
