The UWT’s demolition of the Dawg Shed on Pacific has begun to make way for the new assembly hall. Some of these images haven’t seen sunlight in a long time.

Ah to be young and have a place to buy a centrifugal steam pump again…

Ah, Ghost images—I love them. A nice collection here .
RR—is that your graffiti from the 1970s with the peace sign and middle finger raised?

So are these buildings going? or is just the shed? If it’s just the shed, will all of these be covered?

Love those ghost signs. Thanks for capturing and sharing them one last time before they’re gone forever.

Ah progress. Still we’ll have all those memories. Like the time we ran an ad in the TNT advertising the Apple Cup on a big screen in the Dawg Shed – bring your own lawn chair! Ad copy read “Q: What has 1500 lumens and goes Woof-woof? A: The Dawg Shed at UWT” Beer from the Harmon, hotdogs from the Vault … good times.

The objective is to have the signs, or at least significant portions of them, continue to be visible.
The Landmarks Commission reviewed this project several times over the past year as it developed. The project includes the demolition of the c1963 American Plumbing Supply Company Building, aka “The Shed.”
One of the design criteria was to preserve views of much of the ghost signs from inside the building, and because of the transparency of the building, also from the outside.
To achieve this, the main massing steps back from the party wall, and instead uses this space for stairwells.

I believe some of those signs will actually be visible from the interior of this building.

I hope that the intention to preserve these historical visuals is in- fact preserved. They are such great pieces of nostalgia. Kudos if they pull it off.

Here is what the new building will look like.
So does this mean they’re going to paint the other buildings white ;)
I do hope they try and get some retail at the street level.

UWT has done a really good job getting retail on Pacific Ave. I bet they’ll fill this space too.

There remains just one more building to restore after this one on Pacific which is by Grassi’s Flowers and Gifts. Any news on when this building might be restored? Perhaps this can be a priority in the next legislative session.
