An Urban Oasis Near Sixth Ave & UPS (25. June 2007, 16:29 by Derek Young) ~ Oh So Livable

Take a house that could be a relatively boring architecturally insignificant 1950s Tacoma home. Put it on an interesting lot with a fair amount of backyard privacy. Add two artists with amazing vision and a propensity for hands on customization. The result is this home on South 9th Street that hit the market today. The backyard is a private oasis with large trees and a meandering garden. The kitchen is open to the living room. The bathroom was completely customized with hand made tiles and amazing little details. Plus, it’s located in a great area where many of our friends are buying their homes. Who wants it? Who’s in?

I’ve been to several parties at this house. They’ve taken out some walls to open it up and raised (vaulted?) the ceiling from the living room to the kitchen. The artist-selected paint palette is warm and soothing and it also includes handmade tiles by the artist. The details in the bathroom include an open shower fully tiled with those smooth, black Japanese river stones. The gardens have been meticulously planned and executed.

Tucked away on a relatively quiet street with lots of trees, this place is a keeper.

I love this house! The details are amazing – everywhere you look, you will be surprised by the care taken to make this house wonderful. The color scheme and decor give you a sense of warmth and coziness. There is an openess to the layout of the rooms which allows for interaction between kitchen and living spaces. The backyard is exceptional, giving you a feeling of seclusion that you wouldn’t consider possible in a residential area. Someone is going to love this place!
