For the last several years, a group of students from St. Ignatius High School in San Francisco has come to Tacoma (at their own expense and on their summer break) to volunteer for two weeks at Guadalupe House. With the encouragement of local poets and G-Street residents Karen Havnaer and David Fewster, for the last three years they have also written a chapbook filled with poems, stories, lyrics, and art about their experiences here, and at the end of their stay they have a publication party and public reading. This year’s reading is at One Heart Cafe (1117 Broadway) on Thursday, June 28th (TONIGHT), from 7-9pm, which will feature the students reading from their own work and some local spoken word and musical talent to in turn entertain them.
