Park Plaza South - Fence Goes Up? (24. July 2007, 12:12 by Derek Young) ~ One Step Closer... to something

Yesterday, as we drove down Pacific, we noticed a team of people walking around Park Plaza South. One would point. The others would nod their heads. Repeat. Today, we hear that a fence has gone up on the south side of the building along Pacific. While we had originally heard that demo was to begin on the facade next month – something’s happening. Or maybe somebody just left their fence on the sidewalk. On a related note, Council’s supposed to hear about a proposed bond to help fund the project later today. Our photos aren’t in yet… but you can use your imagination.

Lots of Park Plaza South development news last week, and continued momentum this week.

John Larson at Tacoma Weekly had a story here:

http://tacomaweekly.com/article/909

Also, coverage in the Tacoma Daily Index here:

In short (as of last week):

— 2 of 5 property owners / businesses have settled with the city
— the other 3 are getting their own appraisals
— city and developers want to have bond money in place by fall, so that construction work will follow soon thereafter
— bad news: as the Weekly notes, acquisition costs are about $2 million more than anticipated

This seems like the most movement / news on this garage in ages.

Todd has a good article in the Index about the South Parking Garage developments.

Two of the remaining businesses have now closed apparently bought out by the city and largely cleaned out. The large orange 1970s booths in the Teriyaki restaurant have been ripped out.

“The die has been cast” as they say.

He [Caesar] declared in Greek with loud voice to those who were present ‘The die has been cast’ and led the army across.

Good to read this-Luzon fence remains so a block of fence at present time.
Does anyone have a read on the tenants we can expect in the new format there?

The rehab is finally starting as planned—albeit a little late. Here’s the information we posted in January from the report to the City Council: http://tacomadowntown.blogspot.com/2007/01/no-stalling-on-south-garage-project.html
