Celebrate the harvest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, September 29, with a self-guided tour of six of Tacoma’s community gardens. Come check out the gardens, meet the gardeners, learn about local food, find out how to get your own plot, and meet your neighbors.
Plus, check out all six gardens and get a free plant! Pick up a passport map at one of Tacoma’s farmers markets the week leading up to the event, or that morning from the Proctor Farmers Market. Get your passport stamped at each garden and turn it in at the last stop to get a free plant and be entered into a drawing for other prizes. (Can’t make it to a farmers market? E-mail info@tacomagardens.com or call 253-278-3609 to make sure you get your map.)
Taste: After you get a peek at the gardens, meet up at Stadium Bistro for a buffet of locally grown, vegetarian finger food. The food is free, but RSVP by September 24 so there is enough food for all.
Want to use a bike? The Tacoma Wheelmen will be guiding a bike tour of the community gardens. For details please visit tacomagardens.com.
For more information, or to RSVP, call Urban Gardens Coordinator Whitney Rhodes at 253-278-3609 or email info@tacomagardens.com, or find her at Tacoma’s farmers markets on Tuesday (Dome District), Thursday (downtown on Broadway) and Saturday (Proctor).
The Tacoma Community Garden Tour is made possible by the following organizations: Pierce Conservation District, City of Tacoma, TAGRO, Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department, Stadium Bistro, and Tacoma Wheelmen.
