An Exit133 Top Pick
The term metrosexual has been thrown around among urbanites for the last decade or so, yet it remains difficult to define. Adam Kaufman’s cleverly written comedy ambitiously tackles this dilemma.
Eric Bremer’s sensitivity, meticulous nature, and incessant thoughtfulness (hallmarks of his “metrosexuality”) have helped him attain most of his personal goals. He has a successful career, a close circle of friends, and an upper-class income. Yet one important thing still eludes him, love.
So, Eric once again embarks on a quest for the perfect woman. Two charming friends provide a looking glass for Eric’s unique quirks. Leo is an unabashedly typical heterosexual male on the rebound from an unfulfilling long-term relationship. Kurt is a comfortable, confident, and stylish homosexual who is dumbfounded by Eric’s inability to attract a quality woman. With their help, Eric embarks on a number of hilarious misadventures and hijinx, occasionally interrupted by his senile, yet sweet, father, characterized excellently by Bruce Weitz.
Eric’s final revelation, though somewhat predictable, emerges organically from a simple encounter with a grocery girl, portrayed with an irresistible magnetism by debutante Kat Mandeville. Seemingly mundane, The Metrosexual’s conclusion carries with it a surprising resonance, making it a must see at this year’s festival.
