8th and I Neighbors Celebration (17. October 2007, 11:18 by Whitney) ~ Celebrate Community
The 8th & I Neighbors organization is hosting a Community Celebration Saturday, October 20, at 11:00 a.m. on the 600 Block of South I Street.
They are celebrating the completion of the I Street Closure Project, which closed South I Street where it formerly intersected with Yakima. A pocket park now features a stunning landscape design and sculpture, entitled “Community”, by local artist, Scott Gruber.
The project has also opened new parking options for a community that is growing more dense.

I think is great that they closed that intersection to car traffic, but it is too bad that they didn’t consider a path for bicycle traffic. I use “I” street alot, to get off of Yakima, and now it is almost impossible. Just a little example of changes that are made with litte regard to the needs of non motorized transportation. Something that could be fixed if the city had a Bike/ped coordinator review things. Heck, even Walla Walla has a bike/ped coordinator.
