Farmer's Market Update (20. November 2007, 14:52 by Whitney) ~ Local Food is Good!

Our beloved farmer’s market may have closed for the season, but the organizers have not flown south for the winter. They were at the special session of the Economic Development Committee today to talk about the future of Tacoma’s farmers markets and ask for the City’s financial support. Some of the highlights:

  • The Broadway Market and Proctor Market will be joining forces to continue to grow instead of being separate entities.
  • They are looking to possibly open 2-3 new markets in the next 5 years. McKinley Hill and 6th Ave are both being considered.
  • They have never asked for City financial support before but due to rising costs that accompany growth, they need some help.
  • They will be seeking corporate sponsors to help with finances as well.

We look forward to a bright future for the markets.

Any word on the Dome District market? Or plans for a year round location? Maybe the Food Coop could be tied in with it.
