City Council Meeting- Nov. 27, 2007 (27. November 2007, 21:40 by Whitney) ~ Round 'Em Up

A busy agenda tonight! Here’s a round-up of the extensive meeting:

  • 8 properties were granted Historic Preservation Tax status.
  • A $125,000 agreement with The Fearey Group was authorized, despite some strongly worded questions from the Council. Their goal will be to attract new developers, businesses, and investors to Tacoma. (In the Forums)
  • A public hearing on the budget for next year was held with much public comment. Citizens weighed in on everything from historic preservation to funding of emergency services. In the end, everyone got their 3 minutes, and the Council got an earful.
  • A second public hearing was held, this one about the creation of a city-wide noise ordinance. Citizens, business owners, and property owners expressed their support and dismay with the proposed noise ordinance.
  • The Council passed Ordinance No. 27657, the height increase for the Foss Waterway, by a unanimous vote. (Previously on Exit133)
  • The Council heard the first reading of proposed changes to the comprehensive plan, including new proposed mixed use centers and changes in zoning code to allow small scale wineries. (Morgan will be happy)

Whew. Another marathon session.

Ordinance No. 27657:

Does this mean Foss Harbor will actually become a reality? I hope the developers aren’t dissuaded by the soft residential market AT THIS MOMENT. If they started today, I imagine things would be better by the time that project was completed.

this was the necessary first step for that project to happen. the zoning change still has to pass other agencies before it can become a reality.

…changes in zoning code to allow small scale wineries.

Woo-hoo! I’ll toast to that!

It might help some, but this ordinance hurts others. Too bad, too bad.
