Artists - Celebrate the Bridge! (29. February 2008, 12:56 by Whitney) ~ Ahhh... Our Bridge.

So we heard rumors of this a wile back but just received the official word. Artists, show your love for the Murray Morgan Bridge.

Rec’d via email:

This summer, The Art Stop, LeRoy Jewelers, and BKB & Company will team up to host a juried show of art and contemporary craft celebrating the historically and culturally significant Tacoma icon, The Murray Morgan Bridge. The show will be open June 20th – July 31st 2008 and will be a great attraction during the popular Tall Ships visit to downtown Tacoma. Entries must be original, hand made work submitted by the artist. Works my be functional or non-functional, including wearable art, and all media are welcome. All pieces must be available for sale and priced for retail. The galleries’ commissions are 50% of the retail price and a portion of that percentage will be donated to Save Our Bridge.

If you are interested in creating a piece send the following information:

  • Name, Contact information, and artistic resume
  • A brief description of the proposed piece including medium, size, retail price, and how the piece relates to the theme of the Murray Morgan Bridge.
  • Slides (with self-addressed, stamped envelope) or digital images showing relevant samples of your work.

Please send proposals by April 30th to:

Sweet, I have just the photo! (It’s #2 in the Tacoma gallery of the Fine Art section of my website, www.wallflowerphoto.com, if anyone’s interested.)

That’s funny … off and on I’ve considered the possibility of promoting sales of this photo as a sort of fundraiser for the bridge. I even attended a few Save Our Bridge meetings years ago to suggest the idea, but it was obvious that at that time the group was little more than people who wanted to get together to complain. I’m glad to hear a more organized effort is underway!

Hey, if any artists need help making high-quality giclee prints of their Murray Morgan images (or any others), I’m in the process of launching a new fine art printing business. Just contact me through my photo business email for now if you’re interested.
