The Ansonia, one of the Stadium District’s grandest classic apartment buildings, is starting to appear on MLS. When it was built in 1914, the Ansonia was the latest high end apartment to be built in Tacoma. It boasted of its luxury appointments and security. “Burglar-Proof Vaults”. Every apartment had a safe. We seem to remember a story from somewhere about fur storage in the basement. Ahhh… that was a different era.

Now, the building is has gone condo. We could visit the sales center back in 2006… but now in 2008, with a half dozen or so units on the market, what do we see? 2 bedroom – 2 bath, 1267 square feet for $350k. At the other end of the spectrum is a 3 bedroom – 2 bath with 1867 square feet for $1.15 million.

We do like the neighborhood…

Listed with Windermere

Thank you, Jake

Pity they built it before parking was invented.

Oh, wait – I guess you get parking if you spend a million.

I was surprised at the poor quality of the photos and that there are only a couple when I looked the listing earlier today.

Later I came across this article: “why dont real estate-agents use better photos?”

The Ansonia is a truly historic building, but I’m with the rest who think a million bucks for an apartment there is insane. The apartment might have been worth the money before it was turned into condos. I am horrified to see what is happening to these amazing apartments. The Ansonia was a class act before these “renovations” (well except for maybe the plumbing) but now the units will look like units in any other condo in Tacoma. What a shame. In the old days you could have filmed the Thin Man series with Nick and Nora at the Ansonia. Not any more.
