New Investment at 1126 Pacific and Other News (21. March 2008, 09:43 by Derek Young) ~ Bit by Bit

Forward Tacoma is reporting that a bit of Los Angeles money has purchased 1126 Pacific — just north of the South Park garage and across the pedestrian walkway —and are now exploring uses for the building. A pharmacy is apparently under consideration.

Also in this week’s newsletter, the D Street Overpass has earned a Vision 2020 award from the Puget Sound Regional Council for good planning, the design for Urban Waters is 60 percent complete, and the Heidelberg Hotel folks continue to work with the city on a new design.

That block is one of the ugliest in town. I kind of wish they would tear it all down.

It was Forward Tacoma that reported that the owners of the space rented by the D Town Market were looking for a new tenant. I’m thinking the Forward Tacoma is pretty useless for any real information. Seems to me it is business at usual at the D Town. On the other hand they are one of the few downtown retail operations doing any business these days.

The renovation of the South Park Plaza Parking Garage, Murano Hotel and the renovation of the Luzon may perk that area of town up.

ok, so does anyone else feel that the “renovated” parking garage (not the south one), the ugly one across from Starbucks, is a complete waste……..it looks worse than it did prior to the remodel…..that should have been torn down…..no wonder the commercial space is still for lease….I’m sure everyone is afraid the garage will come crashing down on them if they were to lease the space….did the king oscor dude have anything to do with that garage..it looks like his sort of design……

Roxanne: what needs to chance for the city to begin renovating or replace the blightful Park Plaza North Parking Garage?

What is the city’s current plan for it?

If it isn’t going to be torn down then don’t touch it!

excuss me, but I dont’ believe that the North Plaza garage is across the street from Starbucks……..next time you are at Starbucks on 11th and Pacific, here in Tacoma, look across the street and just a little to the left, and you’ll see the garage in question…………but don’t get me wrong, the North plaza one needs work too……but unfortunately the one I’m refering too was already worked on, hence the complaint…..

and before I get any comments….I meant to say the Park Plaza North garage….not North Plaza…..

I’m not familiar with 1126 Pacific. Isn’t it that three- or four-story building that looks like a bank that is set back a bit from the street? If they are considering a pharmacy, I wonder what the other floors could be used for. I think a pharmacy is questionable considering how few people actually live in the area. However, it’s right across the street from the Wells Fargo building that is undoubtedly filled with aging businessmen in need of medications to enable them to live longer.

Does anyone have a picture of 1126 Pacific? Anytime out-of-towners invest in Tacoma (unless they’re from Oakland!) it’s noteworthy.

I believe it is the cement building that looks like a jail. It is south of Ticor Title and north of the south park plaza rehab.

Frankly, that whole side of the street could be demolished and rebuilt much nicer…….and taller…..

Thanks, Jake. I know which one we’re talking about now.
