Growing Conversation III: Why Eat Local? (17. April 2008, 10:04 by Whitney Rhodes) ~ Mmmm... Kale

Reminder: This is tonight

After we made the innocent inquiry about community gardens, and followed Alice down the rabbit hole, we discovered a new area of interest to Exit133 readers. Gardens and local eating.

This spring’s event is the latest in a series of work, and its focused on local food.

Ever wondered what eating local is all about? Here’s a hint: It’s not just about what you eat. Join the “Growing Conversation III: Why Eat Local?” on Thursday, April 17, at King’s Books. Panelists representing farmers, gardeners, the farmers markets and the Tacoma Food Co-op will kick off the conversation by touching on how eating close to home can positively affect the health of your body, community, economy and the environment.

This topic touches on growing your own food, sustainable and organic gardening, community gardens, the importance of supporting local farms, the health and environmental impacts of increasing the local food in your diet, and so much more.
