A group of citizens has been organizing a “Take Back Frost Park” Event for several weeks during the Friday lunch hour. These gatherings have been fun, informal networking opportunities, that have contributed to the greater good by bringing good energy to a park threatened by a large chainlink fence if certain conditions didn’t change… but today RR Anderson has decided to take it up a notch. Maybe its the sun….
the best CARTOONIST, RR ANDERSON
challenges YOU to a sidewalk chalk sketch-off
this FRIDAY at DEAD NOON, in DOWNTOWN TACOMA.
FIRST EVER EVENT OF IT’S KIND ON THE PLANET!
Challengers will earn the title of
“BEST ILLUSTRATOR IN THE UNIVERSE OF TACOMA” at least until next Friday’s challenge.
RR boasts that you can:
“You cannot possibly beat me, I’m just to good at art” – RR Anderson 2008

This is a chance for all those graphic designers, architects, draftsmen and self described “artists” to put their money where their mouth is.
I’ve got the chalk, the park’s got the walk, have you got the dock?

seriously though thanks to everyone who came down to the BETA version of the Friday Lunchhour Chalk Competition.. I will concede this: Mistakes were Made. Unfortunately you enter into a spontaneous sidewalk chalk art competition with the supplies/spelling on hand and not the supplies/spelling YOU WISH you had.
we’re conducting a survey and hiring an out of town consulting firm so Next week we’ll be back with..
1. assigned/numbered sidewalk sections for competitors 2. a greater supply of sidewalk chalk (bring your own if you’re worried about it even) 3. rigid adherence to the abstract concept of time.see you next week

How about Tollefeson Plaza?
Plenty of blank concrete.
We could all buy our own chalk at Tacoma Art Supply.

i like frost park. I think the ghost of Larry Frost likes it when we use his park. There were plenty of concrete square tiles yet to be filled so we still have some room to grow yet.
Besides it looks better to have Frost park packed, people laying in the grass, relaxing next to the fountain… compared to a few people scattered, uncomfortable on the moonscape of toff plaz.

Amigos! The Tacoma Urbanist has a nice time-stamped play-by-play summary of events of the chalk challenge.
has been determined. It is of note that the first chalk champion is also a woman. Congratulations, Andrea. You have defeated RR Anderson.
Can she defend her crown next week? Stay tuned for more updates over the Tacoma Art ListServe Wire

RR, I’d like you a lot more if you weren’t so full of yourself.
That said I’ll bring chalk next Friday and show you what it means to draw.

Mr. Lance Kagey… your beautiful angel endeavors have been described by critics as pedestrian well there no medium more pedestrian than a sidewalk.
You might think that works to your advantage?
