Rainier Connect Moving into the Pacific Brewing Building (16. April 2008, 16:03 by Derek) ~ Mmm... Beer

Once upon a time, a very astute and patient Exit133 reader sent us a note telling us that the folks behind local telecom company, Rainier Connect, had purchased the Pacific Brewing building in the 2500 block of South Holgate (south downtown) for $1,697,500. It had been listed at $2.38 million. The building is located in between M-Space and Tacoma Self Storage. It was once involved in brewing and malting. Later it produced coconut butter. By the early 1920s, the building was used to make soap. In 1978 the building found itself on the National Historic Register.

But, today, what’s going on? Rainier Connect is planning to move their offices from 800 block of Pacific to this new building on a reasonably short timeline. They also have a new venture to announce that will include a retail space in the front offices. This is a big building with several wide open floors and some dark corners. From what we’ve heard, they plan on using the whole thing – maybe not right away, but they’ll have room to grow. We look forward to seeing it shine once again.

We like this neighborhood…

(thank you, Jake)

That building was for sale forever. It’s hard to believe the Colliers sign will finally be coming down; it has been such a fixture on the side of the building for years. That block is, in my opinion, one of the coolest streets in all of Tacoma. It’s nice to see it coming to life again.

If that’s the building I’m thinking it is, it’s awesome. (reverting to 3rd grade)

I can’t wait to see what the do with it. Happily, with it already on the Historic Register, it should be able to retain some of its charm.

Does this mean a decline in the instance of used condoms and paraphernalia we find around the side of our building? Hooray!
