Frisko Freeze Going Historic (17. April 2008, 15:13 by Derek Young) ~ Mmm... Soft Serve
The Tacoma Daily Index has a story today on a movement to put the Frisko Freeze on the city’s landmark register.
Opened in 1950… it doesn’t appear to have changed much since. The North Slope’s Marshall McClintock is working with the building’s owner, Penny Jensen, on the application. While the history is coming together, there are still some gaps. Do you have any stories to tell? They want to hear them.

hopefully they can tap into the historical preservation money and spiff up the place. I’d be cool to see the tiny vintage water fountain fixed.

the historic preservation ‘stash o’ cash’ (nearly $1 million — http://www.exit133.com/3064/behind-the-times ) is at the pierce county level. if approved, frisko freeze would be placed on the city’s register. still, as i understand it, the owner could take advantage of tax breaks that come with having the building on the register, which could help mitigate the costs of improvements . . . —TODD
There will likely be a strong preference and/or requirement for grants to fund non-profits and public entities.
How’s about we form a “Friends of Frisko Freeze” group? I can’t believe there’s not one already, although I’m sure there are a few unofficial ones.

phil @ 3 — thanks for that clarification. if i’m not mistaken, i believe the grant program is supposed to dole out $200k annually, to be split among the county’s seven districts.
