A mobile crane lost control on the 15th Street hill downtown and crashed into poles and trees before finally stopping on a concrete barrier at 15th and Pacific. The accident happened just after 1:00 pm. No injuries were reported.

That was the most horrifying and surreal experience I’ve had in quite a while! I had just left the Frost Park Chalk-Off to head over to a ground breaking when the crane came thundering down 15th and crashed into a car in front of me. It took out a couple light poles. And some shrubbery.

Luckily, no one was hurt. There were a lot of people taking an extended Friday lunch and it could have been really bad. Although some guy ran over to check to see if anyone was in the cab but when he saw red stuff sprayed on the window he backed away. A sigh of relief went around as it was dicovered that the red stuff was transmission fluid. A little comic relief went a long way at that point.
