Exit133 and the Cross District Association of Tacoma are pleased to announce the Neighborhood Business Showcase! The Showcase is a summer-long tour of Tacoma’s local businesses. Every Thursday evening, somewhere in the City, people will gather to visit their neighborhood businesses, build community and learn how easy it is to “Go Local”.

The Upper Tacoma Business District will be host to our first event. On May 22, from 4 – 7pm, Martin Luther King Jr. Way will be seeing green! People’s Park will be transformed into a bocce field, and local business owners will be sharing their stories. Businesses along MLK Jr Way will be open and handing out “UTBA Bucks” for drawing entries. The drawing will be held in People’s Park at 7pm, unless its raining, in which case check across the street at the Tempest.

Due to reader demand, Exit133’s bocce nights are back. We’ll be playing every week possible, watch Exit133 for ongoing details, and great prizes will be given out. Winners of the evening games will receive prizes, and the winner at the end of the summer will be crowned the “Best Bocce Player in the Universe”. At least in Tacoma’s universe. At least until next summer.

Put May 29, from 4pm – 7pm, on your calendar now, the Ruston/Pt. Defiance Business District will be welcoming visitors with music, soda fountain specials at Don’s Market and terrific prizes. The give-aways include a 3 day, 2 night trip to Ocean Shores, kayaking, and a Zumba party. More details to come!

Thank you for all the hard work exit133.com has put in. I was turned onto exit133 by thriceallamerican.com and I commend the good work and community connection that the local blogshere has brought to tacoma.

It’s also nice to see that you are not only focusing on those business districts officially recognized by the City, but other smaller or less recognized areas as well. Our neighborhoods certainly need a healthy dose of identity. The more events that are held that attach a name to an area, the more likely that area will see itself with pride and initiate neighborhood and business district improvements.
