Guidelines for Comments on Exit133

Comments have become an increasingly important part of Exit133.com and are allowed on most articles. Exit133 does not moderate the comments before it posts to the site. However, Exit133 reserves the right to ban comments from any organization or person, delete comments, or provide minor tweaking to adjust for formatting issues. Exit133 will not change your spelling, punctuation, or sentence structure. Your argument is your argument. Own it.

Comments will automatically close on an article four weeks after being posted. Comment early. Comment often.

To submit a comment you must provide an email address. This is for me to follow up with you if needed. Trust me, I don’t do this regularly or as a practice. Your email address does not publish to the website. If you provide a website address with your comment then your name will link to that site.

General Guidelines

No Ads. No Spam. Period. Avoid self-referral – the ‘hey look at my website’ comments unless it actually applies to the current topic.

Make Sense. Use the preview pane to read your own words. Do you make sense? If you can’t figure out your own argument, then there might be a problem.

No Personal Attacks. Attack the writing, not the writer. Avoid anything personal. Don’t ‘out’ somebody as [fill in blank here] just for the sake of advancing your position.

A violation of the above three guidelines will result in the comment being deleted from the site. What follows below may not get you deleted (but it might) and is more about honor and etiquette.

Advanced Guidelines

Imagine, if you will, that comments on Exit133 are the equivelant of meeting new friends for coffee or a beer and somebody starts an interesting discussion. You join in. Everybody has fun and the evening feels good.

Advance the Conversation. Comments should be viewed as a conversation between real people. It shouldn’t feel random. As we, the readers, scroll down the page the discussion should be progressing toward somewhere.

Assume Community. Nearly everybody that comes to Exit133 has some sort of interest in Tacoma and where Tacoma is going. Respect others. Any comment that would get you slapped, punched, or kicked out of a drinking establishment may jeopardize your ability to comment in the future.

Have fun. Exit133.com’s commenting system was opened up to you to further the debate in Tacoma. But it’s also about having fun. If the article authors spend too much time deleting posts and keeping comments on track, fun is not being had. If it’s no longer fun, comments may go away.

The author reserves the right to delete comments without warning, but may ask the contributor to reconsider their remarks before the comment is deleted and/or the contributor is blocked from the site.

Exit133 is not responsible for the comments of its posters. If you feel a comment does not adhere to the guidelines documented here, is offensive, or should be removed for any other reason, please contact Exit133 immediately.
