Yesterday Starbucks released its list of the 600 or so store’s it plans to close nationwide. One of Tacoma’s made the list. The Rainier Pacific Starbucks, by the LINK stop at the Convention Center will be closing. No word on how quickly this change will be effective.
This store had a difficult location, with minimal nearby parking and other nearby more convenient coffee shops. Never fear Starbucks aficionados the UWT store and the Key Bank store will remain to serve your caffeine needs.
Here’s the complete national list (pdf)

I didn’t know “Starbucks” and “aficionados” were allowed to appear next to each other in print. Reminds me of this article. “Bold coffee for connoisseurs”…wtf? I will cop to the occasional Starbucks trip, but if I’m exercising any discriminating taste, it’s the last place I’m going…

There are a host of independents that are better choices for me. I’ll even take Tullys over ‘bucks.
Besides – the new logo is insulting to merpeople.

Isn’t there something about this in the Book of Revelations – that the 4 horsemen wreak havoc because they couldn’t find a decent cup of coffee within half a block of their parking space – this is one of the signs. Prepare for the Rapture – and hold tight to your coffee mug when you rise up so you don’t scald us sinners left behind!

Tacoma hasn’t lost a Starbucks.
It has gained a sanctuary for the likes of beerBoy.

Why did they take away her nipples? It seems so weird to have a naked lady missing her parts plastered all over everything….

I think Ms McButterpants is onto something. Bring back the original logo and Starbucks will once again prosper. Anyone remember the fate of “New Coke”?

altered chords @3: “…the logo is insulting to merpeople.”
From what I understand, the marketing department at Starbucks is addressing that very issue. Thanks to a team of flamboyant product designers at Starbucks, the company may soon test market three (3) logo enhanced drinking cups. If the new logo cups are accepted by a statistical majority of customers then Starbucks will offer each of the three logo cups at every Starbucks store.
Here’s how the plan works: Logo cup #1 will display the traditional mermaid logo. Logo cup #2 will display a new merman logo. Logo cup #3 will display a shaved head and upper body of a person combined with the lower body of a rainbow trout.
The new logo cups will be test marketed in San Francisco and Seattle.

Coffee is like wine; You don’t always want to drink the same juice. Variety is nice. Sometimes I feel like having a nutty Americano from Starbucks. That doesnt make me a bad member of the community. However, if I want it, one store in my area is all I need. Losing a Starbucks? Big deal. There’s another a few blocks down the street.
Bring back the original Logo and once again reveal the siren’s nipples? They should do it, just so they can release Starbuck’s special areola blend.

Um, the “new” logo is actually the old logo. The “old” logo was the new one, which they ditched in favor of a new one, that being the old one.
There will be a test…
