Sky Terrace Penthouse (23. March 2006, 08:16 by Derek Young) ~ Living Large in the South Sound

Sky Terrace is one of our favorite condo projects in town. The building has this sixties funk to it that… well, we like the place. In our inbox this morning is the Sky Terrace penthouse. 1600 square feet of top floor 1960s goodness. Unobstructed views of Commencement Bay and downtown. At only $650k it seems like a bargain when compared to the other projects in town. Live large!

I’d love some photos of the interior. Send them my way if you have them.

Listed with Medallion Properties, LLC. Link to Sky Terrace and here’s a realty listing

Bargain? That is one of the highest price per sqft i found.. That better be one damn good unit.
The only condos that I found that beat it were 1 at Theas Landing $474 sqft, The Commecement $416 sqft, and one at the Perkins tied it at $406 sqft.

Maybe “bargain” was a bit of an overstatement…

Although I do see the following listed right now:

Commencement
$1,078,500 for 2046 sq. feet ($527)
$1,083,500 for 2334 sq. feet ($464)
$883,500 for 1983 sq. feet ($445)

Marcato (Tacoma Ave. South)
$909,000 for 1730 sq. feet ($525)
$890,000 for 1980 sq. feet ($449)
$859,000 for 1910 sq. feet ($449)

525 Broadway
$724,950 for 1739 sq. feet ($417)

Theas Landing
$790,000 for 1664 sq. feet ($475)

Usually you pay a premium for newer construction. I don’t think Sky Terrace is even in the same ballpark as The Commencement, Marcato, or Theas Landing. I have been in Sky Terrace. I was not really impressed by the 1 inch thick interior walls and the exposed electrical covering.
The rooftop pool and deck were nifty.. Just my opinion.

Maybe what Tacoma needs is a change in perspective. If we want to get development moving, we need to think bigger, not smaller. The real high rollers live in seattle condos that run in the millions. We need something more along the lines of this place.

I totally agree with Dave. I am tired of the 5-6 story buildings! Seriously think about all of them: Marcato, UWT Apartments, Rainier Pacific, Marriot, Convention Center. We need an Extreme Skyline Makeover!

Sky Terrace is about the only condo project in town with a parking garage as its front door. It’s completely anti-urban, but the sales rep insisted that ALL prospective buyers needed at least one parking space.
