The word on the street is that Matador has signed a lease down at 8th and Pacific. Matador is a tequila bar and restaurant with locations in Ballard and West Seattle. This could be dangerous. Good tequila is a good thing. Derek likes good tequila.
We seem to remember hearing that Matador was moving to Tacoma sometime last year, but I can’t find the news story. I’m now hearing that the Tacoma location was delayed while the West Seattle one opened and another one in Portland was being built out. Is this rumor or real? As our tipster told us, nothing is 100% until the doors open.
Update We were talking to a few neighbors in the vicinity of 8th and Pacific and the the big question on the street is, “Where is everybody going to Park???”

Is this place moving into the old Drakes?

I have looked at that Hotel Olympus space for years and wondered why no one has opened an Irish Pub there.
I have also wondered for years why Tacoma has such a shortage of (nice) Irish pubs, and now it looks like multiple are in the works, between this place and Doyle’s Public House on St. Helens….
Now if we can just get one up on Sixth Ave (that isn’t O’Malley’s) so as to be more walkable distance for me… I guess I’m just never happy.

re: Update
I am going to barf if I hear one more person complain about parking in this town!
If you want parking, go to the mall! Do you hear New Yorkers whine about a lack of parking? No! Same goes for any smart urban city: Tokyo, Madrid, London. These, and many other cities (Portland is a great local example), are successful because they plan and build for PEOPLE not CARS…

Yeah I have never really had a problem with paking downtown. I don’t know what everyone is talking about a parking shortage… Norm in Seattle is what walking 5+ blocks if your going out.. 1 block walk in Tacoma if im lucky.. Maybe we are just lazy in Tacoma?
