Oh, Wonder Creature, I still remember that evening by the water. “Let’s walk down to the clay banks,” you said, and I should have gone. I should have said yes. Instead I said, “The tide is coming in. We’d be trapped there, and possibly have to climb up the cliffs through the blackberries.”
I wish you hadn’t laughed at me. In so many ways, I wish you hadn’t laughed. Because suddenly all the things that had seemed so possible became silly puerile dreams.
I regret that I threw the beer bottle at you. But I regret more that I missed, and you just laughed at me again.
