Tacoma has been ranked once again. The Milken Institute released a study today that ranks cities according to job creation and retention, the quality of jobs produced and overall economic performance. Tacoma finds itself in #8 position. This is up from 50th last year. Olympia found itself at #9 and Seattle is at #17.
… Tacoma should remain among the best performers in the country.”
How’d Tacoma do so well? According to the study, Tacoma leaped ahead because of stable employment growth and inexpensive housing and business costs relative to Seattle. The Port of Tacoma, McChord Air Force Base, and Fort Lewis are all called out as significant and stable economic drivers. See … things aren’t all gloom and doom around here.
The study can be found at www.MilkenInstitute.org – albeit with an annoying login requirement.

“Stable employment growth“
Yeah, tell that to my dad. Granted, the TNT didn’t lay off only him, but he’s finding it’s very hard for a 56 year old to find a job in this market.
