As you probably already know, the procession for the four fallen Lakewood police officers starts within the hour. It begins at McChord AFB, heads to the Lakewood Police Department, and will travel up South Tacoma Way to the Tacoma Dome. The memorial service begins in the Tacoma Dome at 1:00 pm. Our local community will be joined by thousands from around the country for the service. The Dome parking lots are already packed, I-5 is backed up, and roads are beginning to close.
This will be a day that we remember for a long time.
If you were considering heading to the Tacoma Dome, be aware that seating for the public is extraordinarily limited. UWT’s Philip Hall, as well as a few other venues, will be set up as an alternative viewing locations for the service.
Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to everybody.

So many people worked so hard in a very short time to honor the fallen officers. The last time I witness a procession anything like this going along South Tacoma Way occurred several years ago. It must have been in honor of William Lowry. At the time, I was amazed at the number of cities agencies I had never heard of that turned out. Today’s memorials leave me speechless. One small scene will stay in my memory: Last evening, at Paddy’s, just before closing (only several yards from where the Flag flies half-staff over Officer Larry Frost Memorial Park) there was a group from the east coast, Massachusetts, I think, relaxing and decompressing. A very humble, honorable group of ladies and gentlemen. I overheard one of them say this day will be one of the most memorable in his life. As I left, I told a few of them that while I wasn’t involved in the memorial, I wanted to thank them for their presence. One of them extended his hand and asked me, “Are you a citizen of Tacoma?” When I replied yes, he said, “Then you were involved. Thank you.”
Still more opportunities to honor and donate, including, so I hear, an event coming up at the Swiss.
