And the City Council Appointments Go To ... (14. January 2010, 10:44 by Derek Young) ~

The Tacoma City Council has just finished the appointment process for the two vacant City Council seats. What began as eight names was trimmed down to just three – David Boe, Ryan Mello, and Rick Talbert.

In the end, David Boe, architect and author of the award winning Imagine Tacoma series was selected for the Position 7 seat. Ryan Mello then received the nod for the second seat.

Congratulations (we think) and good luck!

Good choices, abysmal process. Shows that you can produce good “fruit” when you shovel a lot of BS into the garden! Still think they need to at least apologize to the citizens of Tacoma. Probably should be legally penalized, maybe put on probation and told they will be fined if they do it again. And THEY should bear the cost, not US!

That being said, congratulations Ryan and David. I’m expecting that unanimous votes with no discussion are a thing of the past with you two on the council! Stay strong.

I totally called it!!!

This is a total victory for both Exit133 and the green urbanist flank in Tacoma.

I look forward to a fruitful next couple of years in the City of Destiny.

Congrats to David and Ryan!

Incredibly good choices by the councilmembers. Merit prevailed in the selection process. The other applicants should be congratulated too for throwing their hats in the ring.

A big step forward for the City of Tacoma.

Two of the most knowledgeable people on good urban design in the city and critical to making the city known as being open for business and success in 2010.

I wonder what color suit Mr. Boe will purchase? :o)

Congratulations David & Ryan.

Don’t do it David! Don’t buy a suit!

Congrats to Ryan & David – they were my choices.

Sorry way to start off a new Council season with their desire to hide behind closed doors. Let’s hope a thing or two was learned from this and we can proceed in a productive direction. First step might be finding better legal opinions and using common sense when presented various options that are legal.

no way, have the times changed in Tacoma? First the northshore denial and now appointing two qualified council members with interests in a green, sustainable community? Suddenly I am more optimistic for the City’s future.

I didn’t think we’d actually get such awesome appointments! I’m very happy! I am very excited about the next few years!

I’ll add to the echo chamber — these are really great appointments!

Mello and OUR fellow!

This is good news. I’m not familiar with Mr. Mello’s resume, but I am sure Boe is a great choice. Congrats guys!

who voted for who?

4-3 vote for Mello, what was the head count?

13 | Posted by LC | Jan 14, 04:41 PM

No go on Mello, IMO. His positions sound nice, but his Seattle anti-McGinn enviro politics make him Constitutionally unfit to serve. Another black mark for Pauli.

Yet again, I am amazed at the positive tenor of reader comments at Exit133 vs. TNT.

BAAAAAA”, called the sheep as the Emporer walked by. The Emporer was told that it meant “Beeeeeauuuutiful” in reference to his new clothes. Little did he know that it really meant “We can see your assss”. None of the sheep bothered to correct them and the Emporer walked on.”
Will you SHEEP continue to not speak up and be heard when an ass is displayed before you???
These are the WORST two choices that could have been “made” and the process was as illegal as could be. The whole thing was a JOKE. It only serves to show the peopple that if they don’t speak up, they are no better than the sheep or the Emporer in his new “suit”
Sham, Sham, sham, Tacoma. Sham on you.

Congrats to both David and Ryan. I hope David continues to give us beautiful redesigns of public open spaces and that the city listens to him. I hope Ryan chooses to stay with his day job – he’s done a fantastic job with the conservancy.
