Governor Pledges Russell Money for Sauro Site/Davita (15. January 2010, 12:29 by Derek Young) ~ Ahh ... the Old Cleanorama

Governor Christine Gregoire just made a little announcement at today’s Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce’s City Center Luncheon. What was it? Well, do you remember the $700k the governor’s office added to the Russell package – that multi-jurisdictional mega package that attempted to keep Russell in town? We noted it like this:

WA Economic Development Strategic Reserve Account
Direct Cash Contribution from Gov’s Office
$700,000 (State)

We all know how that worked out … The Governor just told the luncheon audience that the money will now go to rehab the Sauro site and pave the way for an expansion of Davita. Nice.

That one was way off my radar, but still welcome news (and $). Does anyone know if that is enough $ to finish the cleanup job?

Cool!

They sure have worked on that site a lot.

I am not sure what they need to do next.

At any rate, Gregoire has been pretty good for Tacoma with the rehabilitation of the Joy Building as well.

@ Eric B
I agree, but then, she should be good to us. If I recall correctly, Seattle and Tacoma voted for her. The rest of the State voted for the other guy. She should send us flowers daily.

I think that the cleanup job is complete. For about month this fall, a crew was out there everyday hauling out old dirt. The pit has now been filled with gravel and leveled flat. They put a real fence around the whole thing and got rid of that temporary, flimsy fence. I would love to see some construction start soon!

Nice.

Now we wait for the first beams to go up on the building that will finally end Wells Fargo’s 40 year reign as the tallest building in downtown.

Excellent! Much better investment than the 600k the city spent tearing down the Luzon.

The actual clean-up of hazardous stuff on the site is complete. The $700,000 is for additional infrastructure improvements to make the site development-ready
