Washington Farmers Market Week Begins August 2 (31. July 2010, 16:23 by Halley Griffin) ~

Thinking of skipping your visit to the farmers market this week? Don’t.

Instead, join Gov. Chris Gregoire and the rest of Washington in celebrating Farmers Market Week, from Aug. 2-8.

Five of the state’s 140 farmers markets are located right here in Tacoma: downtown, Browns Point, Sixth Avenue, Proctor and South Tacoma.

The Tacoma Farmers Market have special events planned throughout the week, including gardening clinics with Master Gardeners, live animal viewing and educational scavenger hunts for children.

The festivities begin a day early in Tacoma, with gardening clinics, a kids booth, cooking demonstrations and live animal visits at the South Tacoma Farmers Market Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Hours and locations:

Sixth Avenue: Tuesdays 3:30 – 7:30 p.m. between Sixth and Seventh Ave. on N. Pine St.

Broadway: Thursdays 8:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. between 9th and 11th on Broadway.

Browns Point: Thursdays 3 – 7 p.m. at the Browns Point Town Center.

Proctor: Saturdays 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at N. 27th and Proctor.

South Tacoma: Sundays 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at S. 56th and Washington.
