The free house on Sixth Avenue, across from Jason Lee Middle School, appears to be on its way to a new home. We first saw the sign a few weeks ago. Then, one of our readers had his eye on a prime lot and thought the house would be a great fit. He spoke with the owner about moving it, but it turns out the home was already spoken for. Today we hear that the city has started raising the utility lines near the home. Game on. I’m always impressed by the folks that move homes. This could be a good show. |

Now the question is what is going in to replace the home?

Somebody tip the beautiful angel folks, we need a “Free Historic Elks Lodge, You Move” sign for the zimmerman memorial structure at 565 Broadway.

Looks like a great house but who knows.
By the way, new scoop on a renovated place:

Opened a week ago.
They sell a ton of imported plants.

What a treat – the home belongs on the State if not the National Historic Register granted, moving properties from their original site usually precludes listing. This was the home of former State Senator Kathryn Malmstrom who was the first Democrat to represent Tacoma in the State Senate, one of the first Women in the State Senate, and the first woman to serve as chair of the Senate Ways and Means Committee. As far as regional history goes, this house is a keeper – and I am delighted it is being kept.
