Finding a home with any character for under $300k is becoming more and more difficult around our town. Here’s a house that seems worth a look if you’re in the market. 3 bedrooms w/ 1 bath. Recent remodel of unknown quality. 3 car garage. 1600 square feet. Decent character. In walking distance to Gari of Sushi. $220k. I’m not saying it’s a bargain, but it might be for someone…

Can’t believe I bought my first home a little further south, closer to 56th, for under 70K! O.K., that was back in ’92. Each block is so hit-and-miss around there. A couple of streets off the main drag might be quiet enough, and it seems to me that home ownership seems to have been on a slow but steady rise. It used to be that I couldn’t afford North Tacoma. Now I’m afraid I’ll never be able to afford Tacoma at all, and still buy some originality and craftsmanship in a home. Even though I like fixer-upping. No surprises on that address on the TPL building index – just the usual, that it’s 1921, L.G. Hutchinson, builder; O.A. Clearwater contractor, and a listing of the building permit being issued in the TDL 5/22/1921.
